Cigarette Lighter: Service and Repair

CIGAR LIGHTER HOUSING OR 12 VOLT ACCESSORY POWER RECEPTACLE REPLACEMENT (PONTIAC)

TOOLS REQUIRED
J 42059 Cigar Lighter Socket Remover

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Remove the cigar lighter fuse.
2. Remove the cigar lighter element.




3. Remove the cigar lighter housing by placing one side of the "T" portion of J 42059 into the tab window. Angle the other side of the tool into the opposite tab window. Pull the housing straight out.
4. Remove the tool from the lighter housing.




5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the cigar lighter housing.




6. Remove the cigar lighter retainer using your index finger. Pull the retainer out.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Position the cigar lighter retainer with the key to the slot into the cigar lighter hole.




2. Install the cigar lighter retainer by pressing the retainer into place until fully seated.




3. Connect the electrical connector to the cigar lighter housing.




4. Align the cigar lighter housing to the retainer and press the housing into place until fully seated.
5. Install the cigar lighter fuse.




6. Install the cigar lighter element.
7. Inspect the lighter for proper operation.
