Ignition Switch Lock Cylinder Replacement
Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer toBattery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPOs L26/L32) Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPO LS4) in Engine Electrical.
2. Use a plastic trim tool to remove the ignition switch bezel.
3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) accessory trim plate. Refer toTrim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory .
4. Remove the left I/P insulator. Refer toCloseout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
5. Remove the opening filler panel from the I/P steering column. Refer toSteering Column Filler Replacement .
6. Remove the I/P driver knee bolster. Refer toKnee Bolster Replacement - Left .
7. Remove the ignition switch bolts.
8. Lower the ignition switch away from the I/P trim pad.
9. Insert the key into the ignition lock cylinder. Turn the key to the ON/RUN position.
10. Depress and hold the detent on the bottom of the ignition switch in order to release the ignition lock cylinder. Remove the ignition lock cylinder with the key.
11. Remove the key from the lock cylinder.
12. Disengage the theft deterrent reader/exciter module retainers (1,2).
Remove the theft deterrent reader/exciter module (3) from the lock cylinder housing.
13. Remove the lock cylinder.
14. If the cylinder does not rotate, follow the procedure in the ignition switch replacement. Refer toIgnition Switch Replacement .
Installation Procedure
1. Code the ignition lock cylinder , if necessary. Refer toKey and Lock Cylinder Coding in General Information.
2. Slide the theft deterrent reader/exciter module (3) onto the ignition lock cylinder housing. Verify that the retainers (1,2) are engaged.
3. Insert the key to the lock cylinder.
4. Turn the key to the ON/RUN position. Install the ignition lock cylinder into the ignition switch.
If you turned the key slightly while removing the lock cylinder, you may have to align the white ignition switch rotor (1) with the lock cylinder (2). You can rotate the switch rotor with your finger.
5. Remove the key.
6. Position the ignition switch to the I/P trim pad.
Notice: Refer toFastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
7. Install the ignition switch bolts.
Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).
8. Install the I/P driver knee bolster. Refer toKnee Bolster Replacement - Left .
9. Install the I/P steering column opening filler panel. Refer toSteering Column Filler Replacement .
10. Install the left I/P insulator. Refer toCloseout/Insulator Panel Replacement - Left .
11. Install the I/P accessory trim plate. Refer toTrim Plate Replacement - Instrument Panel (I/P) Accessory .
12. Install the ignition switch bezel.
13. Connect the battery ground cable. Refer toBattery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPOs L26/L32) Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure (RPO LS4) in Engine Electrical.
