SIR DISABLING AND ENABLING ZONE 9

DISABLING PROCEDURE




1. Turn the steering wheel so that the vehicle wheels are pointing straight ahead.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
3. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
4. Remove the LH instrument panel (I/P) outer trim cover.
5. Remove the AIR BAG fuse from the LH I/P wiring harness junction block.

IMPORTANT: With the AIR BAG fuse removed and the ignition switch in the RUN position, the AIR BAG warning lamp illuminates. This is a normal operation and does not indicate an SIR system malfunction.

6. When disabling only the inflatable restraint side impact module - RF proceed to step 13, if the entire SIR system needs to be disable then go to step 7.




7. Remove the connector position assurance (CPA) from the side impact module - LF connector (1) located under the driver seat.
8. Disconnect the side impact module - LF connector (1) from the vehicle harness connector.




9. Remove the CPA from the steering wheel module coil connector, located under the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
10. Disconnect the steering wheel module coil connector from the vehicle harness connector.




11. Remove the CPA from the I/P module connector located under the instrument panel, left of the steering column.
12. Disconnect the I/P module connector from the vehicle harness connector.




13. Remove the CPA from the side impact module - RF connector (1) located under the passenger seat.
14. Disconnect the side impact module - RF connector (1) from the vehicle harness connector.

ENABLING PROCEDURE
1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
2. When enabling the inflatable restraint side impact module - RF proceed to step 9, if the entire SIR system needs to be enable then go to step 3.




3. Connect the side impact module - LF connector (1) to the vehicle harness connector.
4. Install the CPA to the side impact module - LF connector (1).




5. Connect the steering wheel module coil connector to the vehicle harness connector.
6. Install the CPA to the steering wheel module coil connector.




7. Connect the I/P module connector to the vehicle harness connector.
8. Install the CPA to the I/P module connector located under the instrument panel, left of the steering column.




9. Connect the side impact module - RF connector (1) to the vehicle harness connector.
10. Install the CPA to the side impact module - RF connector (1).




11. Install the AIR BAG fuse to the LH I/P wiring harness junction block.
12. Install the LH I/P outer trim cover.
13. Use caution while reaching in and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.The AIR BAG indicator will flash then turn OFF.
14. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle if the AIR BAG warning indicator does not operate as described. Refer to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information.
