Diagnostic Instructions

DTC Descriptors

DTC B316A 01
- All Windows Control Request Circuit short to battery

DTC B316A 02
- All Windows Control Request Circuit short to ground

Circuit/System Description

During top operation, the folding top control (FTC) module sends a signal to the window regulators to index the windows open on the retractable hard top request circuits. Upon completion of top operation it sends a signal to close the windows. The FTC monitors the retractable hard top request circuits for proper operation.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The FTC module is active.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

A short to ground or short to voltage is detected on one or both retractable hard top request circuits.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The top is disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The fault is no longer present and the top completes one cycle.

Diagnostic Aids

An open on either retractable hard top request circuit will cause the windows to be inoperative during top operation.

Circuit/System Testing

B316A 01
1. Disconnect the harness connector X1 from the FTC Module.
2. Probe terminal 23 with a test lamp connected to ground. The test lamp should not illuminate.

^ If the test lamp illuminates, repair a short to voltage.

3. Probe terminal 11 with a test lamp connected to ground. The test lamp should not illuminate.

^ If the test lamp illuminates, repair a short to voltage.

4. If circuits test OK, replace FTC Module.

1. Disconnect the harness connector X1 from the FTC Module.
2. Probe terminal 23 with a test lamp connected to B+. The test lamp should not illuminate.

^ If the test lamp illuminates, repair a short to ground.

3. Probe terminal 11 with a test lamp connected to B+. The test lamp should not illuminate.

^ If the test lamp illuminates, repair a short to ground.

4. If circuits test OK, replace FTC Module.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
