Circuit/System Description

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) receives CAN message inputs from the steering wheel position sensor identifying the position and direction of the steering wheel rotation.


Conditions for Running the DTC

* Ignition ON.
* Ignition voltage is greater than 10 volts.



Conditions for Setting the DTC

C0460 00, C0460 12, C0460 5A, or C0460 71

The EBCM detects an internal steering angle sensor failure.

C0460 42

Steering angle sensor not calibrated.


Action Taken When the DTC Sets

* The EBCM disables the ABS/traction control system (TCS)/vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) for the duration of the ignition cycle.
* A DIC message and/or a warning indicator may be displayed.



Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
* The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles.

Circuit/System Verification


C0460 00, C0460 12, C0460 5A, or C0460 71
1. Verify that no U codes are set.

If any of the DTCs are set refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle (Diagnostic Trouble Code Descriptions) .

2. Replace the steering angle sensor.


C0460 42

Verify that DTC C0460 42 is not set.

If the DTC is set perform the special function Steering Position Sensor Centering.



Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
