DTC P0658 or P0659

Diagnostic Instructions

* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provides an overview of each diagnostic category.

DTC Descriptor
DTC P0658
- Solenoid High Control Circuit Group 1 Low Voltage

DTC P0659
- Solenoid High Control Circuit Group 1 High Voltage

Circuit/System Description

The transmission control module (TCM) high side driver 2 is located inside of the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly and is not serviced separately. The high side driver 2 provides the voltage for the TCM pressure control solenoids and shift solenoids. This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.

Conditions for Running the DTC

P0658
* The engine speed is greater than 500 RPM.
* Ignition voltage is between 8-18 volts.
* High side driver 2 is enabled.
* DTC P0658 has not failed this ignition.

P0659

DTC P0659 has not failed this ignition.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

P0658

The TCM detects an internal open or short to ground in the high side driver 2 for 3 out of 5 seconds.

P0659

The TCM detects an internal short to voltage on the high side driver 2 circuit for 3 out of 5 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

P0658
* DTC P0658 is a Type A DTC.
* The TCM turns OFF all high side drivers.
* The TCM turns OFF all solenoids.
* The TCM commands maximum line pressure.
* the TCM freezes transmission adaptive functions.
* The TCM commands the TCC OFF.
* The TCM allows the vehicle to operate in transmission protection mode.

P0659

DTC P0659 is a Type C DTC.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

* DTC P0658 is a Type A DTC.
* DTC P0659 is a Type C DTC.

Circuit/System Testing

1. Clear the DTC and operate the vehicle under the conditions for running and setting the DTC.
2. Observe the High Side Driver CKT Status parameter. The parameter should display OK.

If the parameter displays Open, Short to Ground, Short to Voltage, or the DTC resets, replace the control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly. Refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for replacement, setup, and programming.

Repair Instructions

Important: Always perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.

1. Control solenoid (w/body and TCM) valve assembly replacement. Refer to Control Module References (Programming and Relearning) for replacement, setup and programming.
2. Perform the Service Fast Learn Adapts (Programming and Relearning) .
