Odometer Trip/Reset Switch Inoperative
Odometer Trip/Reset Switch Inoperative
Diagnostic Instructions
* Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.
* Review Strategy Based Diagnosis (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) for an overview of the diagnostic approach.
* Diagnostic Procedure Instructions (Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview) provide an overview of each diagnostic category.
Circuit/System Description
The body control module (BCM) calculates the mileage based on the vehicle speed signal information from the engine control module (ECM). The BCM sends a serial data message to the instrument panel cluster (IPC) indicating the value of the odometer. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal BCM memory failure is detected. The odometer displays either miles or kilometers and the desired units can be accessed by pressing the odometer trip/reset switch.

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, verify the odometer trip reset switch toggles between season and trip odometer when the switch is pressed.
If the odometer trip reset switch does not toggle between season and trip odometer, replace the IPC.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
