- Transponder Chip Malfunction
Circuit Description
Embedded in the vehicle key is a transponder chip. This transponder chip contains unique values (codes) that are read by the theft deterrent key transponder during vehicle starting. The vehicle key has two codes: The key code (immobilizer code) and the wireless code. Both of these codes need to be registered before vehicle starting will be allowed.
Conditions for Running the DTC
The key is inserted into the ignition cylinder.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
* A key malfunction has occurred during the key code registration
* The key code is unable to be registered
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
Engine starting will be disabled.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
The DTC will clear when the conditions for setting the DTC have been corrected.

Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, clear DTCs.
2. Re-register the vehicle keys. Refer to Immobilizer System Component Programming (Programming and Relearning).
3. Start the vehicle and verify DTC B2793 is not set.
• If vehicle starting is disabled or the DTC is set, replace the vehicle key.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
