This Customer Advisory involves 2009 and certain 2010 model year Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a 1.8L engine, and registered outside extreme cold temperature areas (see states above for areas covered under this Customer Advisory). 2009 and certain 2010 model year Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a 1.8L engine that are registered in areas with extreme cold temperatures are covered under Safety Recall 09199.

Condition

General Motors is conducting a safety recall on 2009-2010 model year Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a 1.8L engine (RPO LAY), and registered in Alaska, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. In these states, the extreme cold temperatures (-22°F), may cause the condensation on the brake vacuum intake manifold suction port to freeze. This could result in a loss of power brake assist, and greater brake pedal force and a longer distance could be required to stop the vehicle. If stopping distance is limited, a crash could occur without prior warning.

Vehicles registered outside of these states are not included in the safety recall; however, if the customer expects to drive the vehicle in one of these states when the temperature is -22°F or lower, this condition could occur. These customers are covered under this customer advisory.

Customer Advisory Coverage

Customers who expect to drive their vehicle in one of the states covered by the safety recall when the temperature is -22°F or lower, can choose to have the brake vacuum line on their vehicle modified to prevent this condition at no charge.
