Part Identifier

Subject:
Engine Speed Sender Clearance (Tiptronic Transmission)
ATTENTION:
Service Manager/Service Technician
Models Affected:
1990 to 1992 911 Carrera 2 with Tiptronic Transmission
Concern:
The air gap between the engine speed sender and the carrier plate sensing ring is adjustable. If the adjustment is not made correctly, damage to the sender and/or DME electronic control unit can occur.
General Information:
If the shims for the speed sender have been lost or the speed sender has been changed during repair procedures, the air gap between the speed sender and the carrier plate sensing ring should be set and two new micro encapsulated bolts (Part Number 999 218 005 02) should be installed.
Some vehicles produced between 1990 and 1992 have only one bolt holding the sender to the converter housing. If this is noticed during repair procedures or vehicle inspection, the vehicle should have two new bolts (Part Number 999 218 005 02) installed.
During adjustment procedures, any combination of shims may be used to obtain the correct air gap (1 mm +/- .2 mm) between the sensing ring and speed sender
Literature:
Adjustment procedure may be found in 911 Carrera 2/4 Workshop Manual Book 1, Group 28, pages 28-9 to 28-11.
