Cleaning and Servicing Top
CLEANING AND SERVICING TOPThe service life and appearance of a convertible top will depend considerably on servicing and handling.
The car should be parked in shade whenever possible, since continuous sunshine will attack the textile, rubber and color.
Remove bird droppings immediately, since the acid would cause the rubber to swell and in turn the top to leak.
Always only lower a completely dry top, since otherwise there could be spots of mildew and rubbing spots, which could no longer be removed.
Brush off the top in direction of the textile lines with a soft brush when the top is dusty or prior to washing. Clean the rear window with a soft, antistatic cloth or with a Porsche window cleaner in a spray can. The top dose not have to be washed each time the car body is washed.
Normally it will be sufficient to spray or rinse off the top with clear water. Wet down a top in lukewarm soap water (e.g. fine laundry detergent) with a sponge and rub lightly with a soft brush only when the top is very dirty. Spray off the top with clear water so long afterwards, until there are absolutely no remainders of the soap solution.
Avoid automatic car washing stations - the washing brushes could produce traces of scratching on the rear window.
Never use adhesive tape or labels on the rear window and never cover it with plastic sheet since there is danger of damage and discoloration.
The convertible top must remain raised for drying.
Never use gasoline, spot removers, benzole, paint thinners or other solvents to remove spots on the top and rear window; they would attack the rubber layer between the textile fabrics, destroy the waterproofness and impair the service life. Attempt to remove the spots by rubbing carefully with a soft crepe rubber.
Never remove snow and ice with sharp-edged items. Commercially available deicing solutions can be used to remove ice on the rear window.
Improper servicing and handling could damage the convertible top and/or cause it to leak. Tops can be repaired at any authorized PORSCHE Dealer.
