A.Removal of Old Lifting Roof Parts:
Figure 1:
1. Remove lifting roof panel
2. Remove side panel carpet trim clips at left rear of vehicle and lay carpet aside (Figure 1).

3. Unscrew nuts on studs (Figure 2) and disengage electric drive upper mounting points forward (Figure 3).

4. Swing the lifting roof drive toward the inside of the vehicle and remove the cable tube retaining cover screws (Figure 4).

5. Disconnect the harness plug on the lifting roof drive (Figure 5) and slide the cable out of the drive assembly (Figure 6) with plastic drive dog attached.

Note: If the drive dog is retained on the drive cable by a crimped sleeve, a new drive dog Part Number 944 564 425 01, washer Part Number 999 523 115 02 and screw Part Number 999 014 012 02 will have to be installed on the new type element assembly. If the drive dog is held to the drive cable by a screw, these parts can be reused on the new assembly.
6. Remove mounting screws and washers and take off inside trim panel (Figure 7).

7. Partially remove the edge guard (arrow, Figure 8) and partially loosen the roof liner on the body.

8. Remove the mounting screws from the element guides (Figure 9) and from the center gear box and remove lifting element assembly by pulling the long pipe out of the "C" pillar.
