Exhaust System: Description and Operation
EXHAUST GAS FLOW
The exhaust gases are collected by one exhaust gas manifold (1) for each cylinder line. From there, the exhaust gases flow to an oxygen sensor (2) provided for each of the two cylinder lines. The exhaust gases then enter a metal catalytic converter (3) provided for each of the two cylinder lines. The exhaust gas sampling points (4) (each sealed by a screw) are located between the oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. The exhaust gases flow from the catalytic converters through the end muffler (5) before they finally reach the end of the exhaust pipe.
In the case of USA vehicles, two oxygen sensors (2a) required for testing the efficiency of the catalytic converters are also installed between the catalytic converters and end muffler.
Note: If the end muffler of a USA vehicle is disassembled (OBD II), the two fastening clips (6) after the catalytic converter must be renewed.
