Convertible Top Latch Cover Replacement

Cover for the convertible top latching hook comes off.

The cover cap for the convertible top latching hook is now available as a spare part (Figure 1). A new cover cap (P/N: 996 561 787 OO 01C) should be installed when necessary, as opposed to replacing the entire convertible top latch assembly.

Note:
Warranty claims for complete latch assembly replacement will be denied if replaced for a loose or missing latch hook cover piece.





Also, the side covers for the convertible top latch assembly are available as spare parts. (Figure 2)

Work Procedure:

Installation of a replacement convertible latch hook cover cap

Note:
The convertible top lock does not have to be removed to fit a new cover cap!

1. Open the convertible top by approximately 1/3, and until the latch hook is fully extended.

2. Pull off damaged cover cap if necessary, by pulling downward from the latch hook. The cap should break away at the axis bore.





3. Cut away a section of the new cover cap as shown in Figure 3.

Dimension "X" (inside) = approx. 5.5 mm External cut-away opening is approx. 90 degrees.

4. Remove any grease or residue from the convertible top latch hook (metal portion) with solvent.

5. Apply a thin coat of adhesive at the locations (shown as "1") in Figure 3, and push cap onto latch hook. Ensure proper engagement at the axis point.

6. Remove any residual adhesive.
