Work Procedure
1. Removing the original spacer.1.1. Mask the body under the rear side window to a width of approx. 200 mm. Use a double layer of masking tape to prevent paint damage.
1.2. Pull back the lip of the rear window outer seal (Figure 2, Item 2) starting at the center. Do not remove the outer seal. Expose the spacer block, using one or two plastic spatulas to hold the outer seal lip back. (Figure 2, Item 1)
Note:
Inserting a spatula on either side of the spacer block will hold the outer seal back and out of the way as you work.
Warning!
Warning: Danger of injury and damage to property!
Injury to hands is possible when cutting the spacer in step 1.3! Use a spatula to restrict movement of the knife. Also, damage to the window seal and/or vehicle finish is possible if sufficient care is not used while cutting.
Reminder:
Mask the working area under the rear side window with a 200 mm long, double layered piece of masking tape. Use a spatula to restrict the length of the cut.
1.3. Cut off the outer lip of the spacer block, parallel to the side window (Figure 2, Item 1. See arrow for cutting line). Remove the cut-off piece of spacer block. Use needle-nose pliers to grip the remaining portion of spacer block beneath the window (which is now free) and pull it out.
2. Install new spacer block.
2.1. Insert the new 100 mm spacer block in the center of the window, between the two rivets of the retaining rail.
2.2. Press spacer completely into the retaining rail using a plastic spatula. Ensure the spacer is properly in place, and that it falls beneath the lip of the retaining rail. (See arrow, Figure 3)
2.3. Remove masking tape. Reposition outer seal.
