Convertible Top Locking Hook

Vehicle Type:
911 Carrera (996)

Model Year:
As of 1999 (X)

Concern:
Noise made by the locking hook of the convertible top lock during engagement and disengagement.

Information:
When the convertible top is closed, the locking hook automatically inserts into the support and locks the root into position. Once the locking hook catches, a noise is heard towards the end of the latching process. This indicates that the lock is correctly engaged.

When the convertible top is opened, the locking hook opens and then retracts into the convertible top lock while the top is folding. The engaging noise described above is also heard at the end of this procedure. Since the lock retracts without any resistance during opening, a louder noise is produced.

The noise made by the locking hook at the end of the opening and closing procedure is a normal occurrence during convertible top operation.
