Removing and Installing Oil Mist Separator
Removing and Installing Oil Separator
Alldata Editor Note: Porsche does not provide a service procedure for the Oil Mist Separator. The following is an Alldata Editor article.
Preliminary work for removing oil separator
1. Move convertable to service position.
2. Place protective covers on the vehicle to avoid damage to the body.
3. Remove engine compartment lid.
Removing the oil separator
1. Disconnect "J" tube from the throttle body and then from the oil separator.
2. Disconnect the tube from the middle of the oil separator pointing towards the outside of the vehicle.
3. Raise vehicle and secure using suitable jack stands.
4. Remove right rear wheel.
5. Access the oil separator mounting bolts through the wheel opening.
- The red circle in the images above indicate the oil separator mounting bolts.
6. Remove two 6mm (10mm bolt head) oil separator mounting bolts shown in images. Do not discard. A flexible headed socket may be necessary to access hard to reach mounting bolts.
7. While looking through the wheel well, loosen the bottom hose clamp and push it above where it would clamp down so you can remove the bellows. Using hose clamp pliers like the one shown above will help greatly in the removal of this clamp.
8. From the top of the engine bay, pull the oil separator outwards to release the last connection.
- The image above shows the engine with the oil separator removed.
Installing the Oil Separator
1. Lightly grease the O-ring connections with Kluber Syntheso Glep (Porsche part # 000.043.204.68).
2. Position oil separator into it's mounting location. It may take some turning and wiggling to get it to seat correctly.
3. Connect the "elbow" shaped tube first.
3. Install the lower part of the "accordion" shaped bellow to the oil separator and re-install clamp using hose clamp pliers.
4. Install two oil separator mounting bolts.
5. Install right rear wheel and lower vehicle off jack stands.
6. Connect the middle hose removed from oil separator.
7. Connect "J" tube to the oil separator and then to throttle body.
