446 Clutch Switch - Signal Implausible
Function
Only in vehicles with manual transmission.
When driving with cruise control switched on, the clutch engagement process must be recognized. This is achieved with the aid of the clutch switch.
Diagnosis conditions
- Vehicle speed greater than 50 km/h (30 mph)
- Number of clutch engagement processes more than two
- Time between two clutch engagement processes more than 1 sec.
- Number of gearshifts more than two

Diagnosis Procedure
1 Check clutch switch.
1. Remove clutch switch.
2. Connect ohmmeter to clutch switch, pins 1 and 4.
Display: 0 - 5 ohms
3. Actuate clutch switch.
Display: infinity ohms
2 Check wiring from DME control module, pin IV/23, to clutch switch for short circuit to B+.
1. Connect special tool 9637 to wiring harness (DME control module connector).
2. Connect voltmeter to pin IV/23 and ground.
3. Switch on the ignition.
Display: 0 V
If battery voltage is displayed, check wiring harness for chafing and pinching damage.
3 Perform adaptation.
1. Switch on the ignition.
2. Wait one minute. Do not press the accelerator.
3. Switch off the ignition for at least 10 seconds.
4. Read out the fault memory.
