Work Procedure
1. Preparatory work.Note:
When installing for the first time, or when fitting the Roof Transport System on another vehicle roof ensure that the support tubes (Fig. 3, Item A) are only screwed on loosely with the feet (Item B). Adjust the Roof Transport System to the new vehicle roof!
1.1 Open cover caps on the lock handles (Fig. 4, Item A).
1.2 Unlock the lock handles and pull out of the support tubes (Item B) as far as they will go.
1.3 Release hexagon socket head bolt in the foot (Item C) until a slight resistance can be felt, so that the clamping claw (D) is sufficiently loosened. However, do not yet remove the clamping claw (Item D).
1.4 Assign the front and rear carrier to their respective installation location, according to the sticker on the bottom.
2. Mounting the front carrier
Note:
There are two recesses in the roof rail on both sides of the vehicle (Fig. 5, Item B) for fitting the carrier on the vehicle roof. These recesses are covered by the sealing lip on the roof rail and can be found using the fitting cards (Item A).
For the front carrier, the recesses are located in the roof rail in the area of an imaginary extension of the wind deflector on the glass roof (Item C).
The recess for the rear carrier can be found using a triangle marking on the rear side window, (Fig. 6, Item A).
2.1 Insert both fitting cards (Fig. 7, Item A) into the front recesses on the left and right roof rail.
2.2 Carefully place the feet (Item B) with the loosened clamping claws (Item C) of the front carrier on the fitting cards, paying attention to the direction of travel.
2.3 Center the clamping claw (Item C) in the recess and press the fitting card (Item A) downwards.
2.4 Using the ball of your thumb, position the clamping claw into the recess, sliding along the fitting card.
2.5 Remove fitting card.
Notes:
Make sure:
- that the clamping claw is between the rubber seal and the roof rail, as well as centered in the recess;
- the rubber seal is not pinched by the clamping claw;
- the front edge of the wind deflector (Fig. 8, Item A) and the clamping claws (Item B) of the front carrier are at approximately the same level.
2.6 Slightly tighten the pan-head screw of the clamping claws (Fig. 9, Item A) on both sides, alternating sides, using the Allen key (item B). This fastens the feet (Item C) to the roof rail.
Point 2.7 is only when installing or fitting the Roof Transport System on another vehicle for the first time!
2.7 Screw down the support tube mounted loosely to the feet on both sides. To do this, firmly tighten the prefitted screws (Fig. 10).
Tightening torque: 9 Nm (6.5 ftlb.)
(outer most notch in the torque wrench).
2.8 Brace both clamping claws tightly with the body.
Tighten screws on alternate sides (Fig. 11).
Tightening torque: 6 Nm (4.5 ftlb.)
(center notch in the torque wrench).
Note:
When tightened, the outer surfaces of the clamping claw (Item A) and foot (Item B) form a flat surface.
2.9 Insert lock handles completely into the support tube ends and lock them.
2.10 Seal groove in support tube with rubber profile. The rubber profile can be cut to size, depending on the structure used.
3. Mounting the rear carrier.
Notes:
Always mount the rear carrier with the rear window open (Figure 12, Item A). The rubber seal of the rear window (Item B) must not be pinched by the carrier feet (Item C). When closing the rear window, make sure the rubber seal (Item B) rests against the contour of the feet (Item C).
3.1 Find the position of the rear recesses on the roof rail using the fitting cards (triangle marking on the side window, see Fig. 6).
3.2 Insert the fitting cards into the recesses.
3.3 Carefully place the rear carrier on the fitting cards, with the rear window open and noting the direction 0 travel.
3.4 Fit the rear carrier according to points 2.5 to 2.10.
3.5 Close the rear window.
4. Removing the Roof Transport System
4.1 Unlock the lock handle and pull out of the support tube as far as it will go.
4.2 Lift up the rubber profile out of the groove in the support tube and loosen the pan-head screw of the clamping claw (Fig. 13, Item A) as far as it will go. Do not remove the clamping claw.
4.3 Slightly lift up the foot (Item B) of the Roof Transport System and carefully lever out the clamping claw (Item A) from the recess using the removal tools (Item C).
Note:
Only loosen the pan-head screws in the support tubes (attachment for the feet) if the Roof Transport System will be mounted on another vehicle.
4.4 Remove the second carrier the same way.
