Diagnosis of Camshaft Control

Diagnosis Of Camshaft Control

The diagnosis of camshaft control checks the camshaft angle.

The diagnostic function is only activated if:
1. the engine speed lies in a defined range
2. the engine- and oil temperature lies between its thresholds,
3. the time after start is long enough,
4. the fault flag of the power stage of the camshaft control is not set, and
5. the adaptation between camshaft and crankshaft has been performed.

If the actual camshaft angle differs for a certain time to the desired camshaft position for a in a characteristic map specified range, a camshaft positioning (plausibility) fault will be stored.

The diagnosis is active in the same way for both adjustment directions (early and late timing).

Diagnosis of Camshaft Control

Diagnostic of Camshaft Position Sensor
The purpose of this function is to control the signal change of the camshaft position sensor.

If the signal during a fixed number of engine revolutions continuously is high or low a max. or min. fault is detected.

If there is no regular alternating of the signal (change of high and low every revolution of the camshaft) for a fixed cycle, a plausibility failure is detected.

Diagnosis of CAN - Timeout in Vehicle with Automatic Transmission
A signal failure occur if the following conditions are fulfilled for a delay period from the end-of-start:
- terminal voltage 15 is on
- battery voltage is greater than 8.512 Volts, and
- no CAN information.
