Replacing DME Control Module
Information:
Due to an incorrect diagnosis software number in the DME control module two additional entries are required when programming the DME control module for model year 02 vehicles. The Porsche System Tester 2 (PST2) detects the new DME control module as having already been programmed.
Procedure:
Replacing DME
1. Connect PST2.
2. Switch on the ignition then the PST2.
3. Select "911 (996)" and press >> to start the control unit search.
4. Select "DME" and press >>.
5. Select "Control unit programming" and press >>.
6. Select "Read out control unit (vehicle data)" and press >>.
7. Install new DME control module. With new DME installed press >> to restore connection.
8. Select "Program control unit" and press >>, read programming instructions, and continue by pressing >>.
9. Verify correct VIN by pressing >> then F7.
10. The PST2 now request, "Input old DME programming code". For a new DME (spare part) enter 6 zeros (000000). Confirm by pressing >> then F7.
11. Enter "New DME programming code" obtained from IPAS. Confirm by pressing >> then F7.
12. The PST2 now request, "Input old Immobilizer code". For a new DME (spare part) enter 16 zeros (0000000000000000). Confirm by pressing >> then F7.
13. Enter "New immobilizer code" obtained from IPAS. Confirm by pressing >> then F7.
14. Depending on transmission type of vehicle. Select "OBD II (LEV, Tiptronic) or OBD II (LEV manual transm.). Programming will require approximately 7 minutes.
15. When the programming is complete the PST2 will display the following message: "After control unit programming the "CAN timeout" faults must be erased on every control unit connected with CAN". Continue with >>.
16. Erase "CAN timeout" faults.
17. Return to start menu with "ESC" and switch off the PST2. Disconnect the PST2 from the diagnostic socket.
18. Switch off ignition.
