Removing and Installing Hydraulic Valve For Camshaft Adjustment - Engine Installed
Removing and installing hydraulic valve for camshaft adjustment - engine installed
Caution
Risk of soiling! Absolute cleanliness is essential when working with hydraulic valves!
Removing hydraulic valve for camshaft adjustment
Information
^ The rear muffler must be removed and the holder must be detached before the hydraulic valve on cylinder bank 4 - 6 can removed!
Figure shows cylinder side 1-3
1. Remove the side shield on the respective side of the engine. Unscrew the two M6 hexagon-head bolts for this purpose.
2. Remove cable plug of the hydraulic valve -1- by pressing the clip and pulling off the cable plug.
3. Unscrew both M6 pan-head screws (hexagon socket a/f 5) -item 2 in the previous Figure- of the valve holder and remove the holder with the screws -A-.
4. Remove retainer plate with integral seal -3- from the valve.
5. Carefully pull the hydraulic valve out of the cylinder head using special tool (relay puller) 9235.

Information
^ Always replace O-ring of the hydraulic valve and the retainer plate!
^ Observe installation position of the hydraulic valve!
1. Replace the O-ring of the hydraulic valve and coat the new O-ring with engine oil. Insert hydraulic valve into the cylinder head, paying attention to the installation position (groove on valve -arrow- faces the dowel pin in the cylinder head).

2. Coat seal of the retainer plate with engine oil and slide it over the hydraulic valve.
3. Fit both M6 pan-head screws (hexagon socket a/f 5) complete with holder -A- on the valve and tighten the screws.
Tightening torque 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.)
4. Push the cable plug onto the hydraulic valve again. Make sure that the plug audibly engages.
5. Fit the side shield on the respective side of the engine. Put on and tighten the two M6 hexagon-head bolts for this purpose.

6. On cylinder side 4 - 6, refit the holder for the rear muffler and re-install the rear muffler.
Tightening torque for M8 hexagon-head bolts 23 Nm (17 ftlb.)
