Removing And Installing Oxygen Sensor Behind The Catalytic Converter As Of My 02

Tools

INFORMATION: Observe precautionary measures when handling oxygen sensors.

Removing oxygen sensors behind the catalytic converter

Left side of oxygen sensor :
1. Remove the air filter housing.

2. Disconnect the plug connection in the left engine compartment -1- for the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter. To do this, pull out the grey connector out of the holder first.

3. Undo the black cable -1- of the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter from two wire retainers and the sheetmetal brackets on the engine strut.

INFORMATION: Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be unscrewed with the sensor when it is unscrewed.

4. Open-end ring wrench for oxygen sensor hazet 4681-1 should be placed from the engine compartment side at the hexagon of the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter.
5. From the underside of the vehicle place the dynamometric key on the ring wrench and undo the oxygen sensor. Unlatch the dynamometric key with a small angled Allen key, and unscrew the oxygen sensor from the engine compartment side.

Right side of oxygen sensor :
1. Remove the air filter housing

2. Disconnect the plug connection -1- for the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter. To do this, pull out the grey connector out of the holder first.

3. Undo the black cable -1- of the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter from the cable guide and the sheetmetal brackets on the engine strut.

INFORMATION: Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be unscrewed with the sensor when it is unscrewed.

4. Open-end ring wrench for oxygen sensor hazet 4681-1 should be placed from underside of the vehicle at the hexagon of the oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter. Place the dynamometric key on the ring wrench and undo the oxygen sensor. Unlatch the dynamometric key and remove the ring wrench.
5. Unscrew the oxygen sensor on the underside of the vehicle.

Installing oxygen sensors behind the catalytic converter
- Install the oxygen sensors in reverse order.

INFORMATION: Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be screwed with the sensor when it is screwed in.

1. Route the oxygen sensors so that the cable can be easily routed from the engine compartment side to the exhaust system.
2. Place the oxygen sensor by hand and screw it in as far as possible.
3. Tighten the oxygen sensor with a commercially available open-end ring wrench hazet 4681-1 and 1/2 inch dynamometric key wille 730 r/12 oder hazet 6291-1ct with tightening torque.

Tightening torque: 55±5 Nm (3.7 ftlb.)

4. Route the black oxygen sensor cable -1- and secure it in the sheetmetal brackets, wire retainers, or the cable guide (right side).

5. Connect plug connection (black cable - grey connector) -1- and insert in the holder.
6. Install the air filter housing again
