Removing And Installing Display And Operator Control Unit (PCM 2)

Removing Display And Operator Control Unit (PCM 2)

NOTE:
- When the PCM is replaced by a new or different PCM, read out the data using the Porsche System Tester before removing it.
- The PCM has an optical waveguide. For information on optical waveguides.
- Switch ignition off and remove ignition key.

1. Unclip the switch cover from below with a plastic spatula and unplug the electrical plug connections at the switches.

2. Insert an Alien wrench sideways into the bolts of the locking hooks of the PCM.
3. Using the Alien wrench, close the locking elements (2 x per side) -A- and carefully pull out the PCM.
4. For refitting, open the locking elements with the Alien wrench -B-.

NOTE:
- Depeding on the I No. (CD changer, Bose, amplifier) the number of plug connections varies.
- The version without additional audio components (external Most control units) has a jumper (output goes to input) plugged in for optical waveguide connectors.

5. Release and remove antenna plug -A, E, F-.
6. Release and unplug the electrical the plug connections in the order -C, B, D-.

Installing Display And Operator Control Unit (PCM 2)

NOTE:
- If a "new" PCM is installed, the navigation module from the "old" PCM is removed and installed in the "new" PCM.
- If the "old" PCM is installed again, start at step 6.

1. Before the "new" PCM is installed, release and unplug the protective plug -A- for the optical waveguide.
2. Unclip the cover on the "new" and "old" PCM.

3. Lever out the navigation module carefully using a screwdriver on the removed PCM.

4. Push navigation module into the PCM to be installed.

5. Position the cover and clip it in.

6. Connect the electrical plug connections of the display and operator control unit in the order -D, B, A- and the antenna plug -A, E, F-, until the plug engages audibly.
7. Check if the locking tabs on the PCM protrude -arrow-, and if so, open the locking with an Alien wrench.

NOTE: Before the PCM is inserted into the installation slot, it must be ensured that the electrical lines are not squeezed and damaged by the PCM.

8. Push the PCM into the installation slot until the locking elements on the PCM housing engage.

9. Plug in the electrical plug connections on the switch cover.
10. Mount the switch cover and press in until it clicks into place.

NOTE: After installation of a new display and operator control unit, the system must be activated with the Porsche System Tester.

11. Connect and switch on the Porsche System Tester 2.

Teaching The Display And Operator Control Unit (PCM 2)

NOTE:
- If a new PCM control unit is to be installed in a vehicle, the PCM2/CDR23 code specified in IPAS must be used.
- You can get the codes from IPAS or from your importer by specifying the vehicle identification number.
- If possible, before the PCM is removed and replaced, a read-out of the vehicle data should be obtained from the Porsche System Tester.
- During coding, it is essential to guarantee the power supply for the Porsche System Tester. Connect a battery charging unit to the vehicle battery.
- Symbol for the TAB key = ->|
- Instructions for the Porsche System Tester have a higher priority and are to be followed where descriptions deviate. Deviations may occur with later software versions (as of 15.0).
- The procedure given here has been structured in general terms; different texts or additions may be displayed in the Porsche System Tester.

1. Connect the Porsche System Tester to the vehicle and start the System Tester. Switch ignition on. >> to continue.
2. Select vehicle type using the cursor keys.
3. Using the >> key, move from the vehicle type to the list of control units.
4. Select 'PCM2' with the cursor keys and press the >> key.
5. In the 'PCM2' menu, with the cursor keys on 'PCM2-MMI' press the >> key.
6. Select 'Control unit replacement' with the cursor keys and press the >> key.

14. In the menu 'Coding' select the 'Production mode' and press the >> key.
15. Select 'Production mode off' and confirm with the F8 key.
16. In the menu 'PCM2-GW' to 'MOST actual installed components list'.

NOTE:
- In the 'MOST actual installed components list' the detected installed components are displayed.
- The detected installed components from the 'MOST actual installed components list' is compared with the 'MOST required installed components list'.

17. In the menu 'PCM2-GW' to 'MOST required installed components list'.
18. If the required items do not match the actual installed list, change the 'MOST required installed components list' to the status of the 'MOST actual installed components list' by coding.
19. Leave the 'PCM2-GW' << menu and read out the fault memory and delete as necessary.
20. Leave the 'PCM2' << menu.

NOTE:
- Switch on the PCM2. If the PCM2 cannot be switched on, or if it switches on but music cannot be heard, switch off the ignition and remove ignition key. Close the doors and lock the car. Wait till the alarm system LED flashes "normal". Unlock vehicle and switch on the PCM2 again.
