PSM component arrangement

PSM (Porsche Stability Management) is installed as standard in the 911 Carrera 4 (996) and 911 Carrera 4S (996). PSM variants: production launch with PSM 5.3 and as of model year 2000 (Y-range) PSM 5.7.

The 911 Carrera (996) is equipped with PSM 5.7 as of model year 2000 (Y-range) on special request.

The lateral acceleration sensor is integrated in the rate-of-turn sensor as of PSM 5.7 (as of model year 2000) (rate-of-turn sensor installation position: PSM 5.7 in front of the center console / PSM 5.3 underneath the seat on the right).

As of PSM 5.7 the components: control unit, return pump relay, and solenoid valve relay are located in the hydraulic unit.

Steering angle sensor





The steering angle sensor -C- is attached to the steering column in front of the steering intermediate shaft -A- under the cover -D-.

Booster pump





Four wheel drive vehicles

The booster pump -A- is located in front of the brake booster -C- in the 911 Carrera 4 and 911 Carrera 4S.





RWD vehicles

The booster pump -arrow- is located on the opposite side of the hydraulic unit in the 911 Carrera.

Lateral acceleration sensor PSM 5.3





For PSM 5.3 in model year 1999 (X range) the lateral acceleration sensor -arrow- is installed in front of the center console.

Information
^ For PSM 5.7 (as of model year 2000 / Y range) the rate-of-turn sensor and the lateral acceleration sensor 1 component is also installed in front of the center console (at this position)!

Rate-of-turn sensor - PSM 5.3





The rate-of-turn sensor for PSM 5.3 (model year 1999 / X range) is installed underneath the seat on the right.

Rate-of-turn sensor - PSM 5.7





The lateral acceleration sensor is integrated in the rate-of-turn sensor -arrow- as of PSM 5.7 (as of the 2000 model). The rate-of-turn sensor with integrated lateral acceleration sensor -arrow- is installed in front of the center console.

Information





^ To remove the rate-of-turn sensor, remove the side-panel linings in front of the center console on the left -A- and right.

Brake pressure sensor

The brake pressure sensor is integrated/screwed in the front-axle braking circuit on the hydraulic unit -D- on the PSM 5.7. The brake pressure sensor is located on the booster pump -A- on the PSM 5.3.





The brake pressure sensor is not available as a spare part!

In the case of a defect, replace the hydraulic unit (PSM 5.7) or the return pump (PSM 5.3)!

Control unit - PSM 5.3





The control unit (PSM 5.3) is installed underneath a cover in the front-left area of the luggage compartment. The control module connector can only be removed after the control module has been removed.

^ The control unit is integrated in the hydraulic unit as of PSM 5.7 (not exchangeable).

Relay - PSM 5.3





The return pump relay -2- and the solenoid valve relay -1- are attached to a holder behind the PSM control unit.

^ The relay is located in the hydraulic unit for PSM 5.7 (not exchangeable).

Switch for PSM





The PSM OFF switch (rocker switch) to switch PSM to passive/active mode is located in the center console.
