Removing And Installing Oxygen Sensor In Front Of Catalytic Converter As Of MY 02
Tools
Removing oxygen sensors in front of the catalytic converter
INFORMATION: Observe precautionary measures when handling oxygen sensors.
Left side of oxygen sensor:
1. Remove the air filter housing.
2. Disconnect the plug connection in the left engine compartment -2- for the oxygen sensor in front of catalytic converter. To do this, pull out the black connector out of the holder first.
- -1- grey connector for the sensor after the catalytic converter (black cable)
- -2- black connector for the sensor before the catalytic converter (blue cable)
3. Unclip the blue cable -2- of the oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter from two wire retainers and the sheetmetal brackets on the engine strut.
INFORMATION: Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be unscrewed with the sensor when it is unscrewed.
4. Undo oxygen sensor using an open-ended wrench (wrench size 22) and screw it out by hand.
Right side of oxygen sensor:
1. Remove the air filter housing.
2. Disconnect the plug connection in the right engine compartment -2- for the oxygen sensor in front of catalytic converter. To do this, pull out the black connector out of the holder first.
- -1- grey connector for the sensor after the catalytic converter (black cable)
- -2- black connector for the sensor before the catalytic converter (blue cable)
3. Unclip the blue cable -2- of the oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter from the cable guide and the sheetmetal brackets on the engine strut.
INFORMATION: Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be unscrewed with the sensor when it is unscrewed.
4. Undo oxygen sensor using an open-ended wrench (wrench size 22) and screw it out by hand.
Installing oxygen sensors in front of the catalytic converter
- Install the oxygen sensors in reverse order.
INFORMATION: Expose the oxygen sensor cable so that the cable can be screwed with the sensor when it is screwed in.
1. Route the oxygen sensors so that the cable can be easily routed from the engine compartment side to the exhaust system.
2. Place the oxygen sensor by hand and screw it in as far as possible.
3. Tighten the oxygen sensor using a commercially available open-end ring wrench hazet 4681-1 and dynamometric key.
Tightening torque: 55 ± 5 Nm (3.7 ftlb.)
4. Route the blue oxygen sensor cable and secure it in the sheetmetal brackets, wire retainers, or the cable guide (right side).
5. Connect plug connection (blue cable - black connector) and insert in the holder.
6. Install the air filter housing again.
