Rear Suspension

Removing and installing rear-axle trailing arm

Tools

Removal

1. Lift the vehicle. Remove wheel.

2. Unscrew links for headlight beam adjustment (headlight height adjustment) on the control arm -arrow- (counter with an open-ended wrench). Only on left side!

3. Remove rear underbody cover (because of diagonal arm).

4. Remove diagonal arm -1-.
5. Mark position of camber eccentric screw -2- (using a colored pen for example). Remove camber eccentric screw -2- and swivel axle strut downward.
6. Undo fastening nut from ball joint on wheel carrier -3- (counter with Torx screwdriver 9546 if necessary). Press off axle joint -3- using press-out tool 9560.

Installation

Caution
Danger of injury and material damage if the wheel carrier is raised incorrectly.
^ Do not raise the wheel suspension higher than the normal vehicle position (vehicle resting on wheels).
^ When raising, use a suitable intermediate layer (hard rubber).
^ Do not damage the brake cover plate.

Information
^ Before installing, give the parts a visual check.
^ Replace fastening nuts.
^ Observe correct tightening torques.
^ ball joint taper must be free of grease.
^ When tightening the fastening nuts on the ball joint of the axle strut, counter with Torx screwdriver 9546.
^ It is not necessary to calibrate the sensor for headlight beam adjustment (only left vehicle side!).

1. Install in reverse order. A few special features must be noted in the GT3 RS.

All threaded parts of the axle must be tightened in vehicle position! Vehicle position means: Vehicle standing on the wheels, or the wheel suspension is raised with a universal vehicle lift! Use an intermediate layer (hard rubber)! Do not damage the brake cover plate!
2. Check wheel alignment values and adjust if necessary.

Special features in the GT3 RS

Completing GT3 IRS axle strut

In the GT3 RS, the axle strut consists of two parts. The inner and outer parts are available separately.

The basic camber adjustment is made on the two-part axle strut using adjustment plates -arrow-. A 1-mm thick adjustment plate is installed as standard.

Assemble the inner and outer part using the adjustment plate -arrow- and tighten the two M8 nuts to 27 Nm (20 ftlb.).

Once the assembly work has been completed and the wheel alignment values have been set (if necessary) check all wheels for clearance.

GT3 RS control arm: assembly position

In the GT3 RS, the diagonal arm must always be fitted on the center bore -1- of the axle strut. This applies to both the road version and to racing circuit camber values.
