Multi-Function Switch - Signal Implausible
P0706
Multi-function switch - signal implausible
Function
The multi-function switch is directly actuated by the selector lever via a bowden cable. It transmits the position of the selector lever to the Tiptronic control module via four coding wires L1, L2, L3 and L4, activates the reverse lights and is responsible for blocking the starter when the transmission is in a drive position. The engine can be started only in positions P and N.
Diagnosis conditions
- Battery positive voltage [>] 10.5 V
- Selector lever position engaged (to do this, check Input signals/Multi-function switch with the Porsche System Tester 2)

Diagnosis procedure
NOTE:
- The function of the multi-function switch (MFS) can be tested with the Porsche System Tester 2 (Input signals/Multifunction switch).
- To do this, shift through all selector lever positions in steps and check whether the position display in the instrument cluster and the display on the Tester agree.
- As the Tester display appears after a delay due to the functional principle of the unit, do not shift through the positions too quickly.
1 Check wires from the Tiptronic control module to the multi-function switch for continuity.
1. Pull off connector of Tiptronic control module.
2. Pull off connector of multi-function switch.
3. Connect ohmmeter to Tiptronic control module connector, pin 8, and multi-function switch connector, pin B (or pin 9 and pin D, or pin 36 and pin A, or pin 37 and pin C).
Indication: 0...5 Ohms
If Infinity Ohm is indicated, check wiring harness for crushing and chafing damage.
1 Check wires from the Tiptronic control module to the multi-function switch for short circuit to ground.
1. Connect ohmmeter to Tiptronic control module connector, pin 8 (or pin 9, 36 or 37) and ground.
Indication: Infinity Ohm
If 0...5 Ohms is indicated, check wiring harness for crushing and chafing damage.
1 Check wires from the Tiptronic control module to the multi-function switch for short circuit to plus.
1. Switch on ignition.
2. Connect voltmeter to Tiptronic control module connector, pin 8 (or pin 9, 36 or 37) and ground.
Indication: 0 Volt
If battery voltage is indicated, check wiring harness for crushing and chafing damage.
2 Check multi-function switch with connection.
1. Pull off Tiptronic control module connector.
2. Check switch for continuity with an ohmmeter at the Tiptronic control module connector in accordance with the table.
2 Test multi-function switch without connection.
1. Pull off multi-function switch connector.
2. Check switch for continuity with ohmmeter in accordance with table.
