Removing And Installing Gas Discharge Lamp (Xenon Headlights) As From Model Year '02

WARNING:
Danger of injury from high voltage.
- The light should always be switched off when the components (control module, gas discharge lamp, drive motor) are removed and installed.
- The gas discharge lamp (D2S lamp) should only be operated when installed in the reflector and in the installed headlight.
- A removed headlight does not have a high voltage.
- Gloves must be worn when changing the lamp.
- Do not touch the glass bulb.


Removing gas discharge lamp (Xenon headlights)







1. Switch off light. Remove main headlight.
2. Unscrew the fastening screws -A- for the cap of the headlight.
3. Press both releases -B- and remove the rear cap -1- (with the control module for the gas discharge lamp).







4. Unscrew electrical plug connection on the gas discharge lamp -arrow- (bayonet lock).







5. Turn lamp fastener (bayonet lock) counter-clockwise and remove carefully with the gas discharge lamp.

Installing gas discharge lamp (Xenon headlights)







1. Insert the gas discharge lamp in the correct installation position (2 markings) into the mount on the headlight. Push the bayonet lock over the lamp and turn the lock clockwise until it engages.







2. Connect and screw in (bayonet lock) the electrical plug connection for the gas discharge lamp until it engages.







3. To ensure that the function of the headlight beam adjustment is not impaired, the cable -C- of the plug must always point towards the exterior of the vehicle.
4. Put the cap -1- of the headlight in position and press down until both releases -B- engage. Screw in both screws -A-. Tightening torque: 4 Nm (3 ftlb.).
5. Install main headlight and perform a function test.
