Removing and installing selector lever cable

Selector lever cable components
Removal
Note: The selector cable must not be excessively bent or kinked.
1. Move selector lever to "P" position.
2. Remove selector knob.
3. Remove center console.
4. Detach selector lever cable at selector support.
- Slide the locking sleeve of the adjuster (1) forward and turn it clockwise to removal position.
- Press the retaining clip (2) together and carefully pull the cable upward out of the support bracket.
5. Remove parking brake console.
6. Remove underbody panel (middle and rear).
7. Lever off cable on transmission lever using a commercially available removal tool.
8. Disengage cable at support bracket.
9. Remove cross member.
10. Place transmission jack under the transmission and remove transmission support.
11. From the passenger compartment, press rubber sleeve out to the rear and pull B+ wire out of the slotted sleeve.
Installation
1. Screw on cable end piece by 12 � 0.5 mm.
2. Position rubber sleeve.
3. Apply a generous coating of lubricant (e.g. Contifix tire mounting paste) on the rubber sleeve and B+ wire in the area of the body opening.
4. Cable through the body opening from behind. Take care not to soil the passenger compartment.
5. Insert B+ wire into the slot of the rubber sleeve and carefully press sleeve into the body opening.
6. Fasten cable on support bracket.
7. Press cable end piece onto the transmission lever using a pair of pliers. The end piece must be felt to engage.
8. Install transmission support and cross member.
9. Install parking brake console. Observe routing of the cable.
10. Engage cable on support bracket (2).
11. Move selector lever to position "P", engage cable into the open adjuster (1) and close the adjuster (3). The locking sleeve must move to the end position automatically.
12. Check adjustment of selector lever cable.
13. Adjust parking brake.
14. Install center console.
15. Install selector knob.
16. Fit underbody panels (middle and rear).
