Shiftlock P/N - Discontinuity/Short Circuit to Ground

P1761

Shiftlock P/N - discontinuity/short circuit to ground

Function
With the ignition switched on, shifting from "P" or "N" to a drive position is possible only if the brake pedal is depressed as well.

The locking facility is triggered by a solenoid valve, which activates a detent pawl on the selector lever.

The multi-function switch detects the position "P" or "N" and signals this to the Tiptronic control module. However, the control module does not cause the solenoid to release the selector lever until a signal from the brake-light switch has arrived.

Diagnosis conditions
- In the case of open circuit/short circuit to ground = Ignition on Operate brake
- In the case of short circuit to B+ = Ignition on

Diagnosis procedure

1 Check wire from Tiptronic control module to P/N solenoid for continuity.

1. Pull off Tiptronic control module connector.
2. Disconnect selector lever switch connector.
3. Connect ohmmeter to transmission control unit connector pin 2 and selector lever switch connector pin 5.

Indication: 0...5 Ohms

If infinity Ohm is indicated, check wiring harness for crushing and chafing damage.

1 Check wire from Tiptronic control module to P/N solenoid for short circuit to ground.

1. Connect ohmmeter to Tiptronic control module connector pin 2 and ground.

Indication: infinity Ohm

If 0...5 Ohms is indicated, check wiring harness for crushing and chafing damage.

1 Check wire from Tiptronic control module to P/N solenoid for short circuit to plus.

1. Pull off Tiptronic control module connector.
2. Disconnect selector lever switch connector.
3. Switch on ignition.
4. Connect voltmeter to Tiptronic control module connector pin 2 and ground.

Indication: 0 Volt

If battery voltage is indicated, check wiring harness for crushing and chafing damage.
