New Sunroof Drive Motor
New Sunroof Drive Motor
Vehicle Type: 911 Carrera (996), 911 Carrera 4 (996), with option M 650
Model Year: As of 1999 (X)
Concern: Rumbling noises when driving between 30-37 mph (50-60 kmh) with sunroof is open.
Information: As of February 1, 1999, and VIN: 99 XXS 62 5423, a new tilting/sliding roof drive assembly with enhanced circuitry is installed in production. The new drive assembly has optimized final-position settings that result in lower noise levels.
Open Position Enhancement
The stopping point of the sliding roof panel when opened is approx. 12-mm forward of the former drive assembly stopping point. This results in a dramatic reduction of "rumbling" noises that can occur when the sunroof is fully opened (while traveling at the speeds above).
Closed Position Enhancement
When closing the sliding roof from the tilted position, the sliding roof panel lowers slightly below roof level for a brief moment, then moves upward to its final end position. This allows for a more precise height adjustment of the sliding roof panel. Wind noises are therefore avoided when the sliding roof is closed.
When addressing complaints of "rumbling while driving when the sliding roof is open", vehicles produced prior to the above production change can be retrofitted with the new tilting/sliding roof drive assembly.
