Tilting/Sliding Roof Noises
Tilting/Sliding Roof Noises
Vehicle Type: 911 Carrera (996) / 911 Carrera 4 (996)
Model Year: As of '99 (X)
Concerns: Noises in the area of the Tilting/Sliding Roof (Option M 650)
Information: Muffled rattle from rear area of the tilting/sliding roof. The reason for this could be the loss of edge guard for the water drain bracket. When the edge guard is missing, the roof liner can bump into the sliding roof frame and cause noises.
Solution: Affix a new edge guard for the water drain bracket.

1. Open sliding roof panel by actuating the rocker switch (tilting position) until the end position is reached (Figure 1).
2. Visually inspect if the edge guard for the water drain bracket is still present and affixed correctly (see figure 1).
- if "yes" there is another cause. The cause needs to be determined, corrected, and work procedure through Step 5 completed.
- if "no", continue with step 3.
3. Clean the front edge of the water drain bracket in the area shown.
4. Affix a new edge guard for the water drain bracket using a commercially available instant adhesive (= cyanoacrylate adhesive) (Figure 1).
5. Close sliding roof panel.
