Power Mirror Relay: Testing and Inspection



Rear Window/Mirror Heating Relay

Vehicle Type: 911 Carrera (996)

Model Year: As of 2001 (1)

Concern: The rear window and door mirror heater relay switches off too early.

Information: It is possible that between September 12th and October 3rd 2000, that the rear window/mirror heating relay, Porsche Part Number, 996 615 117 00, switches off too early (relay production weeks 31 to 35). After being switched on, the rear window and door mirror heating switches off in approx. 2 minutes. It should switch off after 15 minutes.

The relay could have been installed in production vehicles and be delivered as spare parts.

VIN ranges, which are effected, are:

99 61S 62 0386 to 99 91S 62 0768 - Coupe
99 61S 65 0528 to 99 71S 65 0909 - Cabriolet

The production date of the relays can be found by looking on the attached barcode sticker. The second and third digits (from the left) of the printed number indicate the production week of the relay. When replacing the relay, make sure you check the bar code before installing it in the vehicle.

If a customer complains that the rear window and door mirror heating is switching off too early then the relay must be replaced. The relay in located in relay support 1, position 4.
