Front Door Window Glass: Testing and Inspection
Door Window Inoperative/Freezing
Vehicle Type: 911 Carrera (996)
Model Year: As of 1999 (X)
Concern: Door window seal freezes to the window glass.
Information: It is possible for the door shaft seal to freeze to the door window when outside temperatures are below freezing. If this should occur, the window will not open. To avoid the possibility of freezing, a modified door seal is installed in production as of October 7, 1998, from the following VINs:
99 4XS 62 4090 - Coupe
99 XXS 65 2565 - Cabriolet
If addressing a customer complaint of "Door window freezing" on a vehicle produced prior to the above VINs, the new type seal can be installed.
