DME Program Map Update Following Engine Replacement

Concern:
DME program map update following engine replacement.
Information:
As of October 19, 2001 new DME program mapping has been programmed in the DME control module. The new program mapping has been programmed in the DME at production starting with the following VIN numbers:
Turbo: 99 72S 68 5570
GT2: 99 X2S 69 6076
Whenever repairing or replacing the engine on model year 01 (1) vehicles a new DME program mapping must be completed with the PST2.
Whenever repairing or replacing the engine on model year 02 (2) vehicles within the following VIN range the new DME program mapping must be completed with the PST2.
Turbo: 99 42S 68 5400 to 99 02S 68 5569
GT2: 99 82S 69 6061 to 99 82S 69 6075
Note:
It will be necessary to obtain the DME programming code from PCNA to perform programming update.
Tools Required:
Porsche System Tester 2 (PST2) with software version 13.0 or later.
Work Procedure:
1. Connect the PST2 to the diagnostic socket.
2. Switch on ignition, then the PST2.
3. Select vehicle type (911 (996) or GT2) press >> and start the automatic control unit search.
4. Select "DME" press >> then select "Control unit programming" and press >>.
5. Select "Control unit type" press >>.
6. The following message will appear in the PST2 information box depending on the transmission type: "OBD II (LEV, manual transm.)" or "OBD II (LEV Tiptronic) followed by "current" or "not current".
Note:
For the GT2 vehicle the message "GT2 OBD II LEV" followed by "current" or "not current" will appear.
7. If "current" appears, then no further action is required. Press "ESC", return to the start menu, and switch off the PST2.
8. If "not current" appears the DME program mapping must be updated. Select "Program map" press >> and follow the instructions displayed on the PST2 then press >>.
9. Input VIN number of vehicle, press >>, confirm by pressing F7.
10. Enter the DME programming code, press >>, confirm by pressing F7.
11. Select the proper data record depending on the transmission type: "OBD II (LEV, manual transm.) or "OBD II (LEV, Tiptronicl press >>. Programming will take approximately 7 minutes.
Note:
For the GT2 vehicle select "GT2 OBD II LEV" press >> now you will need to obtain the "Key from PCNA
Printout the "Key 1" code (save by pressing F4) from the PST2. Fax PST2 printed page of "Key 1" code showing multi-digit "Key 1" code to PCNA After Sales Parts Support @ 1 (770) 290 3532. The After Sales Parts Support department will supply your dealership with "Key 2" code.
With "Key 1" code displayed on PST2 press >>, enter the Key 2 code and confirm by pressing F7. Programming will take approximately 7 minutes.
12. Check weather CAN bus faults have been stored in the fault memory of the Tiptronic and ABS/PSM control unit. Erase if they are present.
13. Return to the start menu with "ESC" and switch off the PST2. Disconnect the PST2 from the diagnostic socket.
14. Switch off the ignition.
15. For learning and adaptation of the E-throttle, switch the ignition on for 1 minute without starting the engine and without actuating the accelerator pedal. Then switch the ignition off for at least 10 seconds.
