Removing Sealing Ring For Cardan Flange
1. Remove cardan shaft, refer to Drive/Propeller Shaft, Bearings and Joints.
2. Place oil collection tray under the transmission.
3. Engage parking lock and firmly set the parking brake.





4. Remove collar nut with special tool 9669.
5. Pull off the cardan flange with a three-arm puller (refer to Tools and Equipment).





6. Lever off sealing ring with special tool VW 681.

Installing Sealing Ring For Cardan Flange





1. Replace O-ring for cardan flange.
2. Fill the space between the dust and sealing lips on the sealing ring with grease (e.g. Liqui - Moly) and drive in the sealing ring up to the mounting face using special tool 9668.





3. Tighten collar nut to 160 Nm (118 ft. lbs.) and secure by pressing in the collar.
4. Install cardan shaft.
