Removing The Hydraulic Control Unit
Note: Do not let engine run with the ATF pan removed or without ATF filling.
1. Remove rear underside panel.
2. Remove cross member.
3. Disengage the coolant lines at the fastening points.
4. Disengage cable on the retaining clips of the ATF pan.
5. Disengage the coolant hoses in the area of the flanged shaft.
6. Pull vacuum pipe off the switch-over valve.
7. Remove the holders for the coolant hoses.
8. Unlock the plug connection by turning it to the left and pull out the plug.
9. Unscrew the fastening screw for the pilot bushing using special too] assembly aid 9663 and pull out the bushing.
10. Place oil collection pan under the transmission.
11. Unscrew drain screw -A- and drain ATF.
12. Remove ATF pan (loosen screws crosswise).
13. Remove ATF filter.
14. Place selector lever in position - P - and unscrew the fastening screws for the hydraulic control unit.
Installing The Hydraulic Control Unit
Install in reverse order, observing the following points:
1. Place selector lever in position - P - and place the hydraulic control unit carefully in position. The selector valve must engage in the driver of the notched plate.
2. First tighten screws for hydraulic control unit hand tight. Then tighten.
Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.).
3. Replace gasket for ATF pan.
4. Insert the plug connection with new sealing rings in the correct position and tighten the fastening screw.
Tightening torque: 2.5 Nm (2 ft. lbs.).
5. Push the plug into the plug connection and lock by turning it to the right.
6. Install the holder for water hoses. It is essential that the centering pin engages in the holder bore. Tighten the fastening screw.
Tightening torque: 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lbs.).
7. Install the coolant hoses with hose holders in the correct position.
8. Push vacuum pipe onto switch-over valve.
9. Fill in ATF refer to Automatic Transmission Fluid for "Replacing ATF fluid".

ATF pan on transmission M6 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.)
Hydraulic control unit
on transmission M6 8 Nm (6 ft. lbs.)
Water hose holder
on transmission M6 10 Nm (7.5 ft. lbs.)
