Fault Code 5505

Electrical System (Steering-Angle Sensor)
The fault is stored in the event of a fault in the electrical system of the steering angle sensor or a voltage drop.

Steering angle sensor up until MY 2002 with 4-pole plug







NOTE:
- As of model year 2003 a new steering angle sensor with 6-pole plug is installed.
- When troubleshooting follow the relevant work instruction since the pin assignment has changed.

Diagnostic conditions
- Vehicle speed is greater than 6 km/h

Possible cause of fault
- Vehicle voltage less than 8.2 V
- Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in control unit circuit
- Steering angle sensor faulty
- PSM control unit faulty

Affected pins
Pin 21 and pin 39

NOTE:
- Before troubleshooting, first erase the fault memory and perform a test drive.
- If fault codes 5505 and 5506 are displayed together, then voltage drops can be assumed.
