Convertible Top Cable: Service and Repair



Replacing The Tension Cable

The following spare parts and tools are required for the repair "Replacing the tension cable":







Removing the tension cable

INFORMATION:
- In order to replace the tension cable, the convertible-top covering must be detached to a certain extent on the relevant side.
- To do so, undo the convertible-top covering at the front and the side of the roof frame, Refer to Replacing convertible-top covering.

1. Disconnecting the tension cable from the main bow







1.1. At the front B-pillar (main bow), undo the fastening screw -1- from the tension cable eye and clamping rail.

2. Disengaging the tension cable at the shaped sheetmetal part







2.1. Cut the plastic sleeve -2- open with a pair of scissors.
2.2. Disengage the tension cable -3- from the tension spring -4- at the shaped sheetmetal part.
2.3. Pull the tension cable -3- out of the seal -5-.

Installing the tension cable

1. Fitting the tension cable at the shaped sheetmetal part







1.1. Pull the tension cable -3- in to the seal -5-.
1.2. Push the heat-shrinking tube -2- over the tension cable -3-.
1.3. Engage the tension cable -3- in the tension spring -4- at the shaped sheetmetal part.
1.4. Pull the heat-shrinking tube -2- over the tension spring. Shrink the heat-shrinking tube to the diameter of the tension spring by heating it with a hot-air gun.

2. Placing the eyelet on the tension cable and measuring the total length







2.1. Push the eyelet fully on to the end of the tension cable.
2.2. Measure the total length of the tension cable from eyelet to eyelet with a tape measure -dimension X = 655 mm-.

3. Pressing the tension cable and the eyelet together







3.1. Using commercially available crimping pliers -7-, press the eyelet -5- together with the tension cable -6- in two places -inset-.

4. Fitting the tension cable to the main bow







4.1. Position the tension cable with the clamping rail at the B-pillar (main bow) and screw in place with the fastening screw -1-.
4.2. Fit the convertible-top cover at the front and side of the roof frame, Refer to Replacing convertible-top covering.
