Mounting Specification for Connecting-Rod Bolts
CAUTION!!
When working on the engine, absolute cleanliness is essential. An engine should be used on the engine assembly support. Lay removed engine parts on clean base and cover them without fail. Even the smallest particles of dirt can block up oil bores.
CAUTION!
Connecting-rod bolts must not be re-used after unscrewing because they cause damage to the engine.
- New connecting-rod bolts must not be screwed on more than 4 times during mounting.

- The mounting specifications applies to ALL 986 engines. Earlier information is no longer valid.
1. Place new connecting-rod bolts in position with the appropriate connecting-rod cap and fit bolts by hand.
2. Pre-tighten connecting-rod bolts with torque.
Initial tightening: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
3. Unscrew connecting-rod bolts.
4. Pre-tighten connecting-rod bolts with torque and carry out final tightening with torque angle wrench.
Initial tightening: 20 Nm (15 ftlb.)
Final tightening: 110° torque angle
