Removing And Installing Exhaust Manifold

Preliminary work
1. Move bonnet to service position using bonnet stay 9704.
2. Disconnect the battery.
3. Put on the protection covers.
4. Remove intake-air distributor.

Removing exhaust manifold







1. Make sure all vacuum lines on the heat shield are loosened.







2. Unclip oxygen sensor cable on heat shield.







3. Remove heat shield by loosening two M6 x 12 -see illustration- -arrows-







4. Remove fastening screw M8 on sheetmetal bracket next to starter -arrow-.







5. Unscrew all six fastening nuts M8 between primary catalytic converter and exhaust manifold. Press primary catalytic converter slightly aside.







6. Remove all 14 fastening nuts M8 from the exhaust manifold arrows -arrows-.
7. Remove exhaust manifold from studs of the cylinder head.
8. Clean sealing surfaces and replace gaskets.

Installing exhaust manifold

NOTE: Always replace exhaust manifold gaskets.

1. Clean sealing surfaces and replace exhaust manifold gaskets.







2. Place exhaust manifold in installation position and position new M8 fastening nuts -arrows-.
3. Fit all M8 fastening nuts. Tightening torque 19 ft.lb.
4. Place primary catalytic converter in the installation position; replace flange seals and position new M8 fastening nuts between exhaust manifold and primary catalytic converter.







5. Position M8 fastening screw on sheetmetal bracket next to starter -arrow-.
6. Fit M8 fastening nuts to specified tightening torque.







7. Fasten heat shield by fitting two M6 x 12 fastening screws. Tightening torque 7.5 ft.lb.
8. Clip oxygen sensor cable to heat shield.







9. Fasten all vacuum lines to heat shield.

Subsequent work
1. Install intake-air distributor.
2. Connect the battery.
3. Remove protective covers.
4. Remove bonnet stay 9704.
