Fault Code 0293

Fault code 0293

Multi-function switch (PRND) [Transmission Range Sensor Circuit Malfunction (PRNDL Input)]

NOTE: The ignition must be switched off and then switched on again in order to display an error message in the instrument cluster.

Use the 'Actual values' menu in the 9588 Porsche System Tester II to check the transmission status and the actual values of the shift solenoid valves and sensors.

Diagnostic conditions
- Ignition on
- Internal Tiptronic control module function test
- Selector lever switch 'PRND' actuated

Switch position and error message

Possible causes of fault
- 'Implausible signal', error message '1*' in the table shown above
- 'No signal/communication', error message '2*' in the table shown above

Affected pins
Tiptronic control module plug:
- Pin 10 'position switch B', from multi-function switch 'pin C7'
- Pin 22 'position switch PA', from multi-function switch 'pin C5'
- Pin 36 'position switch C', from multi-function switch 'pin C9'
- Pin 47 'position switch A', from multi-function switch 'pin C1'

Wiring diagram of multi-function switch (PRND)

1 - Tiptronic control module
2 - Multi-function switch (PRND)
10 (B) - Pin (10)
22 (PA) - Pin (22)
36 (C) - Pin (36)
47 (A) - Pin (47)
I - Current flow
VIG - Voltage supply

Data on multi-function switch (PRND)
- Max. current input: 15 mA (at 16.5 V)

NOTE:
Visual inspection: In the next troubleshooting section, please check first that the affected 'pins' on the Tiptronic control module plug connection and the 'pins' on the 'existing transmission wiring' plug connection are neither damaged nor corroded. Remove any soiling or corrosion/oxidation. Replace damaged parts/wires.

NOTE:
Control unit replacement: Before replacing the 'Tiptronic control unit', the ground connections, power supply and plug connections on the control unit must be checked as OK. Please observe the coding of the control module. After the test drive, read out the fault memory with the 9588 Porsche System Tester II again. Additional causes of faults that could damage the 'Tiptronic control module' should be detected and remedied.
