Fault code 0650

Clutch switch

NOTE: In the case of Cayenne vehicles with manual transmission, this fault can cause the following message to appear on the instrument cluster: 'PHC failure'

'PHC' was switched off by the 'Porsche Drive Off Assistant' monitoring function and is no longer available for this driving cycle.

Follow the following procedure to restart the PHC function:
1. Erase fault memory
2. Start engine and allow to run in idle
3. Take foot off the clutch pedal
4. Depress clutch pedal again (once)
5. Take foot off the clutch pedal again
6. Switch off engine

The 'PHC function' will be available again when the ignition is switched on again.

Follow the procedure described below to remedy the fault in the clutch switch circuit:

Diagnostic conditions
Internal function test: The PSM control unit initially tests internal function sequences when the ignition is switched on (terminal 15). If they are OK, all diagnosable outputs are then tested and any faults are stored.
- Switch on ignition.
- Depress clutch pedal
- Take foot off the clutch pedal again

Possible cause of fault
- Implausible signal: 'Fuse 26' in the fuse carrier in the left side of the dashboard is faulty
- Implausible signal: Short circuit to B+ in the line from the PSM control unit to the clutch switch
- Implausible signal: Short circuit to ground in the line from the PSM control unit to the clutch switch
- Implausible signal: Open circuit in the clutch switch input/output line
- Implausible signal: Clutch switch faulty
- Implausible signal: Control module faulty

Affected pins
PSM control module plug:
- Pin 40 'clutch switch'

Diagnosis/troubleshooting PSM

NOTE: Visual inspection: In the next troubleshooting section, please check first that the affected pins on the PSM control module plug connection are neither damaged nor corroded. The wiring and plugs of the affected components must also be checked for external damage and correct contacts. Repair damaged or corroded pins if possible, otherwise replace affected pins. Repair or replace damaged wires.
