Intake Air Temperature Sensor - Below Limit

Diagnostic conditions
- Battery voltage between 10 V and 16 V
- Ignition switched on

Possible cause of fault
- Short circuit to ground in signal wire
- Intake air temperature sensor faulty (short circuit)
- DME control module faulty

Affected terminals
Turbo : DME control module connector B, pin 108, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 1
Turbo : DME control module connector A, pin 26, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 2
Naturally aspirated engine : DME control module plug A, pin 26, and pin 1 of MAF sensor plug
Naturally aspirated engine : DME control module plug A, pin 27, and pin 3 of MAF sensor plug

Diagnosis/troubleshooting

MAF sensor

Boost-pressure sensor

NOTE: If connector A is disconnected from the DME control module and the ignition is or was switched on, the 'DME Control Module TIMEOUT' fault is recorded in many control modules.

NOTE:
- In the case of the turbo engine, the intake air temperature sensor is integrated into the boost pressure sensor.
- In the naturally aspirated engine, the intake air temperature sensor is integrated into the MAF sensor 1 (right).

NOTE:
Turbo only: The wiring for DME control module connector A, pin 26, and boost pressure sensor connector, pin 2, is routed via the K plug connection, pin 8.

NOTE:
- Naturally aspirated engines only: In Step 4, the MAF sensor must not be removed, but only replaced complete with the tubular piece.
- This diagonal exchange is possible because both the MAF sensors (including tubular piece) are identical, but the intake air temperature sensor is only used on the right.
