Removing and installing the rear disc brake pads

Warning! Danger of accident if brake pads with the wrong brake pad quality are installed!
^ Use only the type-specific brake pads in the Porsche Spare Parts Catalogue!


Removal
^ Remove wheel!
^ The core of the warning contact wire must not be left exposed! Worn insulation is insignificant!
^ If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the expansion tank by suction in order to prevent spilling when disc brake pad is pushed back!





1. Remove retainer (safety bracket) -Arrow at top from retaining pin and move retaining pin -movement arrow- inwards-
2. Remove warning contact wire at brake caliper and expanding spring. Remove warning contacts from brake disc pads.
3. Remove expanding spring.





4. Place piston resetting fixture 144 on brake caliper between the disc brake pads and push pads back evenly -movement arrows-.
5. Remove disc brake pads.

Installation

Warning! Danger of accident if old parts are fitted on brake caliper!
^ Fit new expanding spring, new retaining pin and new safety bracket on the brake caliper!

^ The back of the pad backing plates must not be greased!
^ Check disc brakes for wear.
^ New disc brakes must be clean and free of grease!
^ The core of the warning contact wire must not be left exposed! Worn insulation is insignificant!
^ If necessary, remove a little brake fluid from the expansion tank by suction in order to prevent spilling when disc brake pad is pushed back!
^ Use new repair kit!

1. If necessary, push brake piston back into its original position using the piston resetting fixture 144.
2. Install disc brake pads.





3. Install expanding spring, retaining pin -movement arrow- and retainer (safety bracket) -Arrow at top of retaining pin.
4. Install warning contact wire at brake caliper -Arrow at bottom-, warning contacts at disc brake pads.
5. Press the brake pedal several times while the car is stationary to position the disc brake pads on the brake discs.





6. Check brake fluid level and correct if necessary. The brake fluid level must be between the -MAX-MIN marking-.
7. Mount wheel.
^ Use correct tightening torques!

Bedding in the brake pads
^ New brake pads require a bedding-in period of approximately 200 km! Not until then do they achieve their best friction and wear coefficient! During this period, the brakes should be subjected to full stress when travailing at high speed only in emergencies!
