Removing and Installing Front Parking Brake Cable

Removing and installing front brake cable for foot-operated parking brake

Removing front brake cable

Note!
^ Front brake cable means: From the release for the foot-operated parking brake to the deflector under the centre console.
^ The actuating pedal for the foot-operated parking brake does not have to be removed to do this.

1. Move the actuating pedal into zero position (pull release). Parking brake is released.
2. Remove trim in sill area.
3. Remove centre console.
4. Remove cover of driver's footwell.





5. Fix the adjustment fixture using an -auxiliary pin (maximum 3.5 mm)-. In other words: Press the adjustment fixture together as far as possible until the assembly bores are covered and the auxiliary pin can be inserted.
6. Lift the front carpet (do not bend) and push the rear carpet aside.





7. Remove safety bracket on the deflector





8. Unclip -safety bracket using a screwdriver- and remove it.





9. Remove the ball head from the lock on the deflector. To do this, use an -open-ended wrench (a/f 22) on the deflector hexagon- and turn it until the end of the cable can be removed (arrow).





10. To remove the brake cable, press -the retaining lugs on the clip (arrow)- together and pull it out of the holder.
11. Remove the cover of the release module.





Note!
^ The cable retainer on the actuating pedal for the front brake cable cannot be removed and is not available as an individual part. During removal, carefully press the -cable retainer- back using a small screwdriver.





12. Remove the brake cable at the actuating pedal. To do this, press -the retaining lugs on the retaining clip (arrows)- together and pull the brake cable out of the holder. Push the ball head out of the lock. Carefully press the securing lug; back using a small screwdriver and remove the brake cable.
13. Remove the brake cable under the wiring harness and under the air guide.

Installation





1. Route the brake cable under the wiring harness and under the air guide .
2. Fit the ball head to the lock on the actuating pedal. Make sure that the securing lug is not damaged.





3. Push the ball head into the lock on the deflector. To do this, use an -open-ended wrench (a/f 22) on the deflector hexagon- and turn it until the end of the cable can be inserted.
4. Engage the -safety bracket- into the holder on the deflector and make sure it is fitted correctly. Observe the following note for this purpose:

Note!
^ Damaged safety brackets must be replaced. The brake cable can become detached if the safety bracket is defective.





^ Check safety bracket behind brake cable.





^ Clip in -safety bracket (direction arrow)-.





^ Safety bracket- in end position.

5. Install cover of driver's footwell.
6. Perform a function test.
7. Install centre console.
8. Install lower A-pillar trim.





9. Remove -auxiliary pin- from the actuating mechanism of the foot-operated parking brake and install cover on release module.
10. Install driver's seat.
11. Carry out a function test on the foot-operated parking brake.
