Removing the camshaft housing
Caution: Never twist the crankshaft against the direction/ of movement!
Proceed carefully while working as otherwise the engine can be damaged!
Erasure everything is clean when working on valve drive!
Only turn the engine on the crankshaft arid never on the camshaft as the timing chain can jump over!
Please observe general warning rates arid working regulations!
1. Remove engine.
2. Remove intake distributor.
3. Remove cover for camshaft housing.
5. Remove flat-base tappets and put down in accordance with installation position.
6. Remove timing case cover.
7. Pull off the cable plug on the camshaft sensor.
8. Turbocharged engine (M48/50): Remove oil feed line from camshaft housing. To do this, unscrew union nut.
9. Turbocharged engine (M48/50): Remove sheetmetal bracket for turbocharger.
10. Unscrew ground connection.
11. Unscrew the upper fastening screw -3- of oil line. Replace sealing ring -2- .
12. Unscrew both hexagon socket head bolts M8 x 20 and M8 x 30 on the front end (on cylinder bank 1-4, the screws are located at the side on the exterior of the chain box).

Note: When removing the camshaft housing, ensure that none of the sealing rings or residual sealant fall into the cylinder head.
13. Unscrew 26 camshaft housing fastening screws M8 x 45 contrary to the indicated order and lever camshaft housing off the cylinder head. When removing the camshaft housing, ensure that none of the sealing rings or residual sealant fall into the cylinder head.

14. If the camshaft housing is reused, all residual sealant must be removed.
