Removing chain case lid
This task can only be performed if the engine has been removed.

Note:
^ The description only explains how to remove the chain case lid. The removal of other components is described in the corresponding chapters.
^ Before the engine is removed, the fastening screws of the water pump belt pulley should be removed.
Remove engine guard.
1. Drain off engine oil and dispose of it in accordance with the applicable national laws.
2. Loosen (do not unscrew) the 3 fastening screws of the water pump belt pulley.
3. Remove engine.
4. Remove engine carrier. To do this, release the 4 fastening screws on the engine mounts.
5. Relieve and remove drive belt. To do this, turn the belt tensioner clockwise and remove the drive belt from the tensioning roller. Subsequently relieve the belt tensioner slowly.
6. Dismantle belt tensioner. To do this, release fastening screws -4 and 5- on the carrier and on the underside of the shock absorber.
7. Remove deflector wheel of cylinder bank 1-4. To do this, lever off the lid and unscrew the fastening screw.
8. Remove water pump belt pulley.
Note: In order to ensure that the used fastening screw of the belt pulley is not used again, mark it with a felt-tip pen.
9. Remove belt pulley from the crankshaft.
10. Remove console for oil/water heat exchanger.
11. Remove cable duct from cylinder bank 1-4.
12. Disconnect coolant line leading to the generator.
13. Remove valve cover.
14. Remove chain tensioner.
15. Remove oil dipstick.
16. Remove crankshaft sealing ring on timing case cover. To do this, loosen the 4 fastening screws.
17. Remove timing case cover. To do this, release all the fastening screws in reverse order (beginning with position 28).
Warning: Motor can become leaky.
^ When dismantling the timing case cover, the sealing bead between the oil pan and crankcase can become damaged.
^ When dismantling the timing case cover, the oil pan has to be resealed every time.
18. Remove oil pan.
