Removing And Installing (Main) Catalytic Converter

CAUTION:
Danger of burns.
- Exhaust system can be very hot.
- Only remove the exhaust system when it has cooled down.
- Wear protective gloves.
Installing main catalytic converter on cylinder bank 1 - 4
NOTE: Seals and self-locking nuts or screws must always be replaced.
1. Push new exhaust clamp onto the exhaust pipe.
2. Ensure that the sealing surfaces of the exhaust system are clean.
3. Replace flange seal and push it over the studs of the main catalytic converter.
4. Move the main catalytic converter into the installation position and fit new nuts and screws.
5. Cover the right wing and guide through a ratchet with several extensions from above to tighten the top nut between the starter catalyst and main catalytic converter to a tightening torque of 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).
6. Tighten exhaust screws and nuts to a tightening torque of 23 Nm (17 ftlb.).
7. Install new exhaust clamps. The bolts must be pointing downwards. Maximum inclination: 10 degrees. Tightening torque: 60 Nm (44 ftlb.).
8. Tighten cardan shaft between front wheel drive and transfer box to a tightening torque of 30 Nm (22 ftlb.) + 90 degrees torque angle.
9. Install underride guard with transverse strut. Tighten fastening screws to 10 Nm (7.5 ftlb.).
